Creating value in business
Would your employees spend their time and resources differently if the company were their own? Help them understand the importance of running a business in the most productive, cost-effective manner possible, and strengthen your competitive advantage with Celemi's Apples & Oranges.
Apples and Oranges is a business simulation designed to help individuals develop a deeper understanding of the flow of resources in their company and demonstrate how they can have a positive impact on the organization's profitability and competitive advantage. Participants will see the "big picture" of how cash moves through their company and how they can make a meaningful contribution to the business. Apples & Oranges is useful at all levels and has successfully been implemented with top management, to middle management, to plant floor operators to new hires.
Working in teams, they "manage a business" toward improved performance. They compare the effects of management decisions in seemingly unrelated areas (thus comparing apples to oranges) and try to improve the overall efficiency and profitability of their operation.
Apples and Oranges enables people to identify how to:
| | Generate profits now and in the future for the business. |
| | Impact the company strategically and financially through their daily actions. |
| | Use resources where they will do the most good. |
| | Continuously identify improvements to business operations. |
The simulation itself is run over a four to six-hour period with small teams managing a business that goes from the basics to facing global challenges. They use key indicators (ROA, ROE, and others) along with generating an Income Statement and Balance Sheet for each of the simulation years.
Manage resources to your best advantage.
Celemi's Apples & Oranges offers an effective way to get people involved in your company's mission by demonstrating the positive impact they can have on the organization's profitability and competitive advantage.
In only four hours, employees at any level can develop a real understanding of the flow of resources in the company, so they can make meaningful contributions to the business.
Help everyone see the "big picture"… and the positive effects their actions have on the business.
Apples & Oranges helps people see the "big picture." It provides an overview of the company's products and services, and the positive effect each employee's actions has on both the company's and the employee's development.
During the learning process, small work groups, each group is called a StudyCircle®, are challenged to manage a business to improve performance. The participants compare the effect of management decisions in seemingly unrelated areas - comparing Apples & Oranges. This helps them understand how and where costs and income are generated, and how these impact the overall efficiency and profitability of the operation.
After the simulation, each StudyCircle has the opportunity to generate new ideas on productivity for their own company. These ideas are then refined and evaluated in monetary terms and the collective effect is calculated. While the figures are only estimates, the potential positive impact of these ideas is often astonishing.
Build team consensus
Apples & Oranges supports business leaders in their quest to create a common vision and build a shared understanding of financial and management concepts among everyone in the company. Employees who understand the reasons driving management's decisions are more inclined to support new workplace strategies and tactics. Apples & Oranges is an especially powerful business tool for managers who need to communicate key messages during times of organizational change.
Improve sales results
Apples & Oranges is an effective tool for helping sales teams develop a better understanding of their customers' business-providing critical competitive advantages for sales organizations. Besides the language of product today's sales representatives need to talk the language of systems, competitors, and business. Apples & Oranges will provide that business understanding thus making their presentations much more effective and focused on business results.
